A lot of people have asked how I lost so much weight, but they don’t know it took well over a year to really get where I wanted to be. After much research the real key is simple. Burn more calories than you take in. I’ve lost over 100 lbs and I never have prescribed to any particular diet for that long. I try and eat healthy but routinely eat hot pockets, pizza and key lime pie. Restriction leads to huge cheat days, blowups and giving up all together. So elimination diets just won’t work for me. I did stop drinking alcohol, but I lost weight before that change with some clever and moderate alcohol choices, or spirits instead of beer. So guess what? You can keep the beer too, moderation is the key!
Anyway, let’s do it! Get started and get to work!
First you need a realistic goal. To find a healthy weight idea you can check out these tables: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm. Somewhere in there you will find the balance.
The biggest single thing responsible for, and guaranteed to work if you use it, is an app I have called “lose it.” It also can be found on www.loseit.com.
You can even add “friends”. The motivation aspect can be cool but I never really got I to that. You put in your stats, and it gives you the choice of how much weight you’d like to lose per week and your goal weight. As long as your daily calorie intake isn’t any lower than about 1500, you are in good shape to still feel full and not too pissed off. Be stubborn and stick with it and it works like clockwork. 1-2 lbs a week. That’s a lot, by the way. It feels small but 5 lbs is heavy on your gut.
It, by default made me make better, more filling choices. One piece of pizza, or 3 cottage cheese cups and a bowl of fruit. If you are hungry, you make some better choices when restricted. So it helped me change my lifestyle as I learned more and more about health.
When you exercise it adds calories to
How much you can eat. Ride your bike for 30 minutes, go ahead and eat the slice of pie. Now I absolutely love exercising! No mystery why…I also love pie!
I found exercises I enjoyed, biking, walking (can’t run much due to screwed up knees) and just playing around the park with my kid. Pushups, jumping jacks, it all adds up.
I’m stoked to share because I feel better, my high blood pressure disappeared, clothes fit, and I don’t get chest pains any time I climb stairs. I’m 5’8 and at 240 I was a wreck. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your family and a lot simpler than most people make it out to be.
This is just the way I did it. I’ve lost weight and maintained my goal. I feel great and look younger. Well, except my hair, but whatever! I’m no fitness expert but I know what worked for me. Good luck!
So to recap, exercise more, eat less. After all, abs are made in the kitchen. I can’t really offer any advice beyond my own experience. I am not a nutritionist, or a doctor, and those are people you should really consult before starting any weight loss plan. My expertise is in the experience I have had in losing over 100 lbs without any gimmicks, elimination diets, or grueling workouts. In fact, many of my workouts are just playing at the park chasing my daughter! That is the only surefire way to see any progress. I used and saw results from Loseit.com, and their app which held me accountable and though it’s boring and redundant to type in all your food all the time, the proof is in the pudding or lack thereof.
