“Rad Dad Feature: Toby Morse”

Toby Morse has been a staple in the New York punk and hardcore scene for well over 20 years.  Lead singer of definitive hardcore band H2O, I’ve learned he is a father and husband first and foremost.  In addition to being a singer, he is also a powerful motivational speaker with his organization “One Life One Chance” that speaks to schools all throughout the nation.  He has been an inspiration to many with his positive mental attitude, drug free lifestyle and also as a steadfast family man.  He definitely is a “Modern Day Dad”, and it was an honor to get a chance to speak with him.

1. Tell us about what you do, who you are, and how you balance your
career with being a dad?

I sing in a band called H2O for almost 20yrs and I’m also a motivational speaker at schools nation wide. My non profit is called one life one chance. My fam comes before any show or school visit. I try to bring my son & wife overseas with me every summer and thanks to Skype and FaceTime touring is a lot easier. When I’m off the road I’m home 110% fam time only.

2. What does being a modern-day dad mean to you?

It means that this world is scary and kids are exposed to so much way too young.  It means I need to be a role model for my son and communication is key for us. We talk about everything and it’s important to have that trust and open dialogue as he gets older. It goes by fast and in the modern day everything around us is moving faster. So hold on to your kids and keep them pointed in the right direction at school and with there friends etc that’s our job.

3.How did becoming a father change your life?

It changed everything. How I speak, act, sing about and especially see the world. It’s the best thing to be a parent and the scariest at times. But I can’t imagine me and my wife’s life any other way. My son is a true gentleman.

4. Whats the greatest part about being a dad?

It’s really fun and everyday is something new. I love experiencing  Xmas, Halloween, cartoons all the classic movies with him. It makes you young again and you get to see the world through their eyes and try and give them a better life than you had.

5. Can you share a funny story about being a father?

There’s too many man.

6. What advice can you give any new father out there?

Don’t be your kids friend be their dad.

Thanks so much Toby!  You are truly an inspiration!  Keep up the great work!
