Eric is one of those few people that you see on the internet that you immediately find inspiration from. Initially I was impressed with his ability to balance running a gym, staying in amazing shape, yet also eating almost whatever the hell he feels like. His wildly humorous “funsized reviews” of various forms of ice cream, donuts, and snack foods show that being fit and strong can also be fun and without total and complete deprivation. After running into him in real life, I had the pleasure of finding out he was much more than an online sensation, but a really genuine guy that enjoys life to the fullest, and somehow manages everything he’s got on his plate.
Eric is a new father, but already has a great grasp on what it’s all about. He is another fine example of what it means to be a modern day dad, and I’m stoked to share this feature.
1. Tell us about what you do, who you are, and how you balance your career with being a dad?
My name’s Eric and I’m a strength coach, food Instagrammer, ice cream YouTuber, gym owner, husband, and father of a two month old baby boy named Cameron.
2. What does being a modern-day dad mean to you?
To me, being a modern day dad means being the best father possible without wearing the embarrassing shoes. All jokes aside, I think think a big part of being a MDD is about bucking the pre-conceived notions of what a dad should look like and how we should act. Just because you’re a family man doesn’t mean you need to wear boat shoes with a tucked in polo and/or work a standard 9-5 office job to pay the bills. Modern Day Dads take pride in their appearance, we work out, we eat good, and we have tattoos.
3.How did becoming a father change your life?
In many ways, my life remains unchanged. But for the most part, I have a whole boatload of new responsibilities. To sum it up – I’m in charge of raising a human being. My day to day is a whole lot different and a lot of times my schedule gets thrown out the window, but I still make time for things that are important to me… But my son and my wife always come first before them.
4. Whats the greatest part about being a dad?
I’m just getting started so I’m a newbie, but right now there’s nothing better than seeing my baby smile.
5. Can you share a funny story about being a father?
Well, this wasn’t funny to me at the time but a couple weeks ago my son shit all over himself and I somehow managed to get him stuck in his car seat. I couldn’t get him out and since I was out by myself with him, I had a minor meltdown. Fun times.
6. What advice can you give any new father out there?
Be there for your wife. She’s got a tough job and she needs all the help she can get.
Thanks so much for taking part dude, and I wish you continued success in all you do…and I hope you got that car seat all cleaned up!
