These days, a company that you can stand behind really is rare. Finding a clothing and hard goods company whose goals and ideas reflect my own and mirror those of a “Modern Day Dad” is next to impossible. Well at least I thought it was until I got introduced to Organika. Organika is a company that is known for their high quality goods just as much as they are for their positive and progressive vibes. Those vibes are magically packed into each and every thread of their garments along with care, intent and style.
Rad dad, Karl Watson has been ruling this area of the game for years now. In addition to being a remarkable human being, he also runs a skate company that has a legit clothing line in accordance with it. Organika’s clothing are more than just a banner for his brand, they are high quality clothes that are fashionable, functional and hip. From tee shirts to jackets and pants, the attention to detail is unmatchable. Subtle design inclusions like sacred geometric patterns, positive affirmations, wooden buttons, and original logos make Organika stand apart from any skateboard company and/or clothing company to speak of. Though I know skateboarding is at the heart of their line, it’s much more than that, broader and all encompassing with designs that reflect on life and the act of truly living.
I was lucky enough to receive a package from Karl this week and couldn’t wait to share it with you. I felt like I stumbled upon a gold mine and there was enough for me to share with everyone. The package I got was chock full of some of the best gear out right now and it all fit like a glove. The shipping was quick, packed tightly and everything perfectly folded and in plastics. Immediately I was stoked to see the attention to every aspect when it comes to the quality in the clothing.
I slid into a pair of the Grow Chino pants, and they were just out of this world. Simple, while keeping fit and comfort in mind. They are definitely the most comfortable pants I have ever worn. I was pleased to see the triple stitching and surprised to note they feel soft and broken in even though they are brand-new. They are a classic style, but nothing like the stiff and starchy feeling of other brands. They were flexible enough to go skateboarding in, stylish enough for every day wear, and modern enough to wear on almost any occasion.
I also was lucky enough to receive some of the nicest shirts in their line. With some cool designs, these 100% cotton tees fit perfectly. They are comfortable, sleek and stylish. Each shirt had it’s own different personality and given the feeling behind the company, it’s just more than a design on a shirt, it’s art selection with meaning, whether literal or not. The feelings the graphic selection evoke all tie into the Organika Flavor.
If you are an adult that has been skating for a while you know how important it is to find that holy grail of skateboard sizes. Let’s face it, I am a grown man, and I need a grown man sized skateboard. I hate the feeling of a little toy underneath my feet (although that’s exactly what it is) and I need a wider board with the length necessary to execute what I need to do. Although I need it wide enough for stability, I also need to be able to flip it with ease. With the Suits deck, (Cardona 8.38) I have the best of both worlds. I skate everything from street, to transitions, parks and ledges. This is trily an all terrain board. The concave is perfect, the nose is nice and scoopy with a long enough tail, and at 32 inches long, it’s got enough between the legs. Although Organika offers a wide range of board sizes, this one is absolutely perfect for me, and anyone that wants one board for everything they skate.
